Every bridge begins with an obstacle. Some are geographical – a river, or even an ocean – and some are more abstract – like the “valley of death” that lies between a scientific discovery and a practical solution.

Swissnex is in the business of building these bridges, and this month, we’re doing just that. Next week we’re kicking off a new series of events to deepen the connection between Basel and Boston, two of the world’s leading centers of life sciences innovation. On July 13 leaders from both ecosystems will come together to talk about the intersection of biotech and sustainability: decarbonizing labs, sustainable materials, and what each city can learn from the other. A week later, a transatlantic panel of researchers will explore how engineered bacteria could revolutionize drug delivery.

Then there's the bridge from discovery to impact. In our recent interview with Sam Inverso of the Wyss Institute, we look at how they’re partnering with Northpond Ventures to turn biologically-inspired breakthroughs into technologies with real impact. We also look back at our NY Tech Week Startup Camp, and hear insights from Swiss startups about what it takes to scale in the US.

Earlier this month, we sat down with Samuel Inverso, Director of Business Development for Partnerships at Harvard’s Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering, to discuss new models for translating scientific discoveries into real-world impact.
