The new edition of the Swiss Venture Capital Report paints a compelling picture of a startup ecosystem back in strong form, with a nearly 25% increase in investment year over year, and biotech and ICT leading the way. Switzerland excels at developing startups in their early stages, and a 73% surge in early-stage investments drove much of this year’s overall increase. But when it comes to scaling, Swiss startups still tend to look abroad—and especially to the US. International fundraising comes with opportunities as well as challenges, including differences in legal frameworks and lack of investor familiarity with the Swiss ecosystem.
Recognizing this, Swissnex’s teams in Boston, New York, and San Francisco launched Swiss Venture Connect, a program designed to help US investors build familiarity with the Swiss ecosystem and better understand the opportunities and realities of investing in Swiss-based startups. Last month, as part of the program, we took 12 US firms on a week-long roadshow of Swiss innovation, facilitating connections with Swiss startups, investors, and ecosystem builders from Zurich to Neuchâtel and Lausanne.
